Carcassonne is a cosy family game about building up a province in the area around the French medieval town of Carcassonne. This is done with the 72 included landscape tiles, which show roads, cities, fields and monasteries.

On their turn, a player draws a tile from a bag and places it so that it matches the tiles already laid, domino-style. The player may then, if they wish, place one of their own figures on the tile. Completing a city or a road, or surrounding a monastery, while having a figure placed in that area scores points. The winner is the player with the most points when all landscape tiles have been placed.

Carcassonne was released in 2000, and with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide it can safely be called a modern classic.

The Danish and English, new and old expansions for Carcassonne all fit together. There may, however, be differences in the appearance of the tiles.

Please note: This is the updated edition (Edition 2.0) of Carcassonne. It includes the mini-expansions The River and The Abbot. Any differences, however, are purely cosmetic and this game can still be enjoyed with older expansions.
